Numerical analysis of all-steel sandwich panel with drilled I-core subjected to air blast scenarios

Abstract This paper reports a numerical study carried out with the aim of quantifying nonlinear dynamic response drilled I-core steel sandwich panel when subjected to air blast loading. Several parameters, i.e., boundary conditions, explosive charge weight and asymmetrical loading, that can affect structural under loads, are considered. The material geometric nonlinearities strain-rate effects also taken into account in modeling. Obtained results compared available experimental data verify developed finite element model good agreement is observed. According results, panels allow more plastic deformation energy dissipation less midpoint displacement equivalent structures, conventional solid plate same material.
